about
- Amsterdamse Popprijs 2022
The fiery Amsterdam punk act OATS are releasing their third single “MAGNOLIA” on the 24th of February 2023, available on all major streaming platforms. Since releasing their first single “Reformat to Run”, the band have toured Warsaw, made their mark on the Amsterdam underground scene by setting up the Lilac Underground, an event organisation showcasing young bands in Amsterdam, and are set to perform at Complexity Fest on February 25th.
With this new track “MAGNOLIA”, OATS showcase their propensity to experiment and blend genres, from neo-soul to hardcore-punk, and pushing the boundaries of aggressive music by creating an explosion of tenderness and gut-churning fury that packs a punch.
The song starts with a fast-paced bassline that’s swiftly accompanied by pounding drums, angular guitars and a distorted Alto Saxophone delivered by up-and-coming Jazz artist Miguel Valente (Nausyqa, YOPE). But around the 2 minute mark the band surprises us by delivering a velvety smooth Neo-Soul section, with a sax solo as the cherry on top of the cake, before unleashing the final fiery act of the song.
